Artvin, with 50% of its land covered with forests, wild life is mostly consists of bear, wild boar, wolf, fox, jackal, partridge, quail, trout. In the Yusufeli hunting ground, mountain goat is available for hunting. As Yusufeli is under the protection of wild life regulations, there is a richness in the hunt population.

In the 2002 count, 322 wild goat, 204 mountain goat, 94 brown bear were found. These numbers are just found in the counted area.10 rangers are working to stop illegal hunting activities.

Barhal trout is very smart. It is hard to fish them as they can see outside the water. They are seen under waterfalls.Those agile fish can perform interesting acrobatic moves .

They like clear water and their gills are bunged up with mud in flood times. They wait flood to fade out in appropriate locations. Moving like an arrow they reach the surface of the water and get the bait. There are many trouts in Barhal stream. The taste of these fish is unmatched.

But because of uncontrolled fisihing the Barhal trout is under protection for the time being.
